Panchangam in English, Madhwa Panchangam (Kannada, Tamil, Telugu)

General Information

This panchanga is a version of Thanjavur Panchangam (Published from 1867 in Tamil). It is available in English, Kannada, Tamil and Telugu. Thanjavur Panchangam was originally published in Marathi script, later in Tamil script.

Thanjavur Panchangam (in Tamil) is available in Book form. Each paksha’s detail is given in a separate page. English date, Souramana date, Dinamana, Thithi, Vara, Nakshatra, Yoga, Karana and Nakshatra Thajya beginning time are given in columns on the Left side of the page. Dina Viseshas are in the middle of the page and Shraddha Thithi is in the Right side of the page.

Guru of the Panchanga kartha is Late Shri Bhushya Padmanabhachar (1927-2011) (Triplicane, Chennai). He prepared the Panchanga for the years 1968 to 1997.

Calendar format

One page for each Chandramana masa (month). This format with a box (Square) for each day has been chosen over the Book format due to its convenience in usage

On the Top portion of page 

          1. Details of the month – Samvatsara, Chandramana Masa, Ayana, Ruthu (Ruthu’s Abhimani Devatha), Masa Niyamaka (Month’s Lakshmi – Narayana’s names), Soura mana months, English (Gregorian) months. The Soura Masa’s Adithya (Surya’s) names are also given.
          2. Serial numbers of Samvatsara, Ruthu, Chandramana month, Souramana month are given.

In the Middle portion

          1. Seven rows each depicting a day of the week and five columns make sufficient squares for the days of the month. Each day’s details are given in a square (box).
          2. For the convenience of sankalpa, Samvatsara, Ayana, Ruthu, Masa, Paksha, Thithi, Vara, Nakshatra, Yoga and Karana are arranged in

 Panchanga Kartha

S Narasimha Rao was born in Holenarasipur (Karnataka) in 1948. He graduated as an Engineer from Bangalore University during 1968. He has extensive Consulting experience in Manufacturing Industries and Educational Institutions. At present, he is assisting Educational Institutions in establishing Quality Systems in order to attain Excellence in Quality and sustain the same.

He accidentally became a Panchanga-kartha. During mid 1997, he sought clarifications from Shri Bhushya Padmanabhachar, his family priest (from 1970), regarding the peculiarities he observed in the Panchanga. Shri Padmanabhachar, himself a Panchanga-kartha from 1968 taught him all about calculating the panchangam and also handed over preparation & publication of Thanjavur Panchangam (published from 1867) from the year 1998-99.

An English version of the panchangam was first published in calendar format from the year 2004-05, under the title “Panchangam in English ”. The hallmark of this panchangam is its User friendliness. Kannada and Tamil versions have followed. This year 2025-26, a Telugu version has been published.

From the year 2006-07, Panchangam is being published online for other countries; Singapore, USA’s Chicago, Washington, LosAngeles, Denver, UAE’s Dubai, UK’s London, Australia’s Sydney and Melbourne. These are available in the website panchangas.in These are also published in Sri Uttaradi Mutt’s website uttaradimutt.org/panchanga along with their Panchangas for India.

A book titled Basics of Panchangam has been written with the common man in view, to make him/her understand the contents of a Panchangam. Inquisitive peculiarities seen in the Panchangam (for example: Two thithis occurring on the same day, Same thithi occurring on two successive days, etc.) are explained in detail. Pictorial representations are given for clarity.
